Billionaire Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar Sworn in as Malaysia’s New King
Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar ascended to the throne as Malaysia’s new King on Wednesday.
The billionaire became the nation’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, or He Who is Made Lord, at the National Palace in Kuala Lumpur where he took the oath of office.
As the ruler of Johor state bordering Singapore, the 65-year-old was next in line to serve for five years under a unique rotating monarchy system where the country’s nine hereditary rulers take turns to be the next King.
Sultan Ibrahim is one of the wealthiest men in Malaysia and is known for his large collection of luxury cars and motorbikes.
He also has a close relationship with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and has been outspoken about Malaysian politics and corruption.
